tie front slouchy sweater | free pattern
I've been enjoying the slouchy sweatshirt I fabricated a few weeks agone and wanted to make some other ane, but in a lighter weight fabric for spring. And I decided to add some ties to the forepart to change things up a little. Then today you tin download a complimentary tie front end add-on design for the slouchy sweatshirt.
You'll want to read through the original perfect slouchy sweatshirt tutorial first, so you know how to sew one upwardly. Then I'll explain hither what modifications you'll make to add the tie forepart.
You lot'll demand 1.five – two yards of 60 inch wide knit (stretchy) material for this top, which is a women's size L. Prewash and dry your textile.
You can download the complimentary slouchy sweatshirt pattern by clicking here. Print it out as directed in that tutorial, at 100% or total size. Butt the pages together and tape together, then cut it the pattern.
You lot can download the tie front add-on pattern past clicking hither. It prints on 3 pages and looks like this:
Ok, for the tie front variation you will need to cut ii sleeve pieces as directed on the normal pattern. Then you'll need to cut a bodice front end and a bodice dorsum. For the bodice front, it's probably easiest if y'all print the normal pattern out twice. And then print the tie forepart pattern our and friction match information technology up to the bottom of the bodice patterns, as shown here:
Then for the bodice dorsum, simply cut some other one of the shapes above, except cutting it straight across the lesser (without the ties).
Y'all'll also need neckbinding every bit directed on the original pattern, simply y'all will non need a hem ring or sleeve bands.
Run up the shirt together equally directed in the original tutorial, finishing the neckline and hemming the sleeves to the desired length (I fabricated mine iii/4 length). It will wait similar this:
And then we but need to hem the lesser of the shirt, including the ties. You will demand to use a double needle or a zig zag stitch for this hem to make sure it tin can stretch. Start with the within of the ties. Turn the fabric on the inside of the ties upwards 1/4 of an inch, printing, and sew. If it ends up looking a bit wonky (similar mine do) don't worry – once the ties are tied you'll never notice the hem.
In one case that is washed, turn upward the bottom of the entire shirt well-nigh 1/two an inch, printing and sew (again with a double needle or zig zag).
That will finish off your shirt and it'southward ready to wear!
